"After this, the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them two by two ahead of him to every town and place where he was about to go. He told them, "The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field." Luke 10:1-2
When Jesus sent these men into the mission field, He sent them in pairs. It wasn't because one person couldn't get the job done, but because two are better than one. Not only can they help each another, they can pray for each other, hold each other accountable, encourage one another and even rebuke and/or correct one another. The relationship of two people with the same Lord and the same goal should be both productive and symbiotic. The 2x2 ministry is patterned after this example.
Established in the Summer of 2011, the work was envisioned by Jim Green, founder of Prayertower Ministries, so prayer is obviously viewed as centric to everything else. The theme of his website is to teach people to pray and make disciples.
The 2x2 team members extend across denomination, age, gender and race for one purpose: to fulfill our Lord's Great Commission through preaching the gospel and making disciples.
The goal of 2x2 is to equip and train with encouragement and accountability. It provides a platform for individuals to exercise their spiritual giftedness in loving other people in Jesus' name. After joining, a person is helped in finding his or her giftedness (if they don't know it) and then assigned a ministry role where they can exercise it.
While many teams may form, each one ministers primarily within their own congregation. From there, select members travel periodically to minister to other churches through strengthening existing ministries or helping begin new ones. The purpose of 2x2 is to reproduce itself for God's glory. It's functions include (but not limited to) music, drama, sign language, interpretative movement, prayer, discipleship, men's and women's ministry, preaching, teaching, workshops, prison ministry, sound and video production, the Fourth Day community and hands-on support ministry.
Training and special meetings take place in the homes of team members or at the Grove at Red Oak Lake - a Christian Camp/Retreat and Conference Center located in Cordova, Tennessee.
